It’s Philip’s 25th birthday, and he’s decided to actually celebrate this year. What he hasn’t told anyone, is that it happens to be the one-year anniversary of his attempted suicide as well. The party begins and he realizes none of his friends are going to make it—the only guest in attendance is his depression, and thus, he spirals into the depths of his neurotic mind. Recalling both sweet and awkward childhood anecdotes, he examines the way his sexuality has shaped his sadness. Philip realizes he has a decision to make: give in to his Nostalgia for Melancholia and give up, or embrace it and move forward.
