The setting of a sleazy bar inhabited by the dregs of society initially suggests a poetic Tennessee Williams tragicomedy or a bloody Tracy Letts thriller. Yet ribald hilarity and tongue-in-cheek metaphysical themes soon predominate when, at the titular dive, news arrives that an imprisoned maniac has escaped, vowing to come and slaughter one of the bar’s denizens. The eight-member ensemble, led by J. When the legendary Victor Helms breaks out of a maximum security prison, he dials the Barking Pig to announce that he is coming to kill one of the bars six patrons. Which one will receive Victor’s wrath? Is Victor a man, an angel or death itself? As the lot of drunken eccentrics bite and claw their way to the bottom of life’s final mysteries, hilarity, audacity, and bad poetry ensue – begging the question: is there time for one more drink?
