Haunting beautiful, Writer/Composer Ben Boquist has captured something truly special, The most surprising notion about this story is the difference in whatis being portrayed on the stage in front of you, and how organized religion has historically portrayed the "fall of man" time and time again. This modern retelling is a story at its core about resilience, empathy, and forgiveness. This thought-provoking musical portrays all the characters as equals, whereupon they are all given their own agency. Watching Songs of the Fall is a great way to remind yourself that some people are more talented and more courageous than you. As a creator, writer/producer/star Ben Boquist is fearless; he offers the audience his whole heart and the sum of his considerable talents. First and foremost, he is an impressive songwriter. The tune here are definitely hummable, and I could hear the lyrics landing as the audience responded to some of the more clever rhymes and turns of phrase. But then, Boquist is also fun to watch -- both as the earnest, down-on-his-luck modern Adam, as well as the mythic Adam, who dauntlessly dives in to the future darkness of all mankind. Very interesting, a great modern spin on the Adam and Eve story, Ben's script is filled with powerful drama, and beautiful music. The portrayal of each of the characters gives new thought and meaning to God and Lucifer, causing you to really think about the seriousness and truth to the creation of humanity. ... full review

Interesting take on an old story, which seems to be often told from a legalistic angle. The perspective is seen more from Lucifer's angle, and how "she/he/they/it" sees what took place in that infamous garden. The "we" are a clever interpretation of God and all the loadedness that word encompasses, and their role seem to make "God" accessible as well. Songs are powerful and haunting... "I created Death...." was decidedly telling... as well as the song when Adam and Eve first experience life outside of their world. Go see it. ... full review

I was elated when I left the theater, buzzing with energy. Songs of the Fall was both hilarious and heartbreaking. A wonderful, fresh retelling of a story we've heard a thousand times. So many profound moments in the writing, I wish I'd had a pen and paper to take notes on lines I want to remember forever. Would pay to see again. The actors were clearly enjoying themselves and carried a commanding presence on stage. ... full review
