What I liked

Some of these singers are just incredible. Lights out stuff. I love watching actors just get to sing their face off and cut loose, yet all of the performers are really great story-tellers, too (even when singing Styx). Great, inventive use of the cramped 3 Clubs back bar (such a fun venue), an absolutely outstanding band, and great lighting and sound on top of it all.

What I didn't like

I think “Psychosical” is doing exactly what it needs to do. Loose story in a cabaret format, with talented people belting their faces off. It sometimes feels like karaoke to me, which is not always my fave… but at worst it’s really fucking good karaoke with a live band in a mental institution.

My overall impression

I’m not always a big fan of jukebox cabaret type shows, but I had a great time with the inmates at “Psychosical”! This talented cast of the 2 Cents Theatre Co. are the real deal, and took me on a crazy fun ride. Seriously incredible vocals. Seriously. Super fun direction. A killer band. And at its core, a big, beautiful heart. If you’re looking for a raucous, rocking night at the Fringe (one you can drink through), what more could you ask for?
