The mixture of emotional beats brought about by the songs was terrific. Each singer brought their own charm and character to their pieces. And the costumes were astounding. Such a beautiful black and white visual to go with the wonderful photographs projected on a screen behind the band.
What I didn't like
The song Bitter Angel felt out of place. Amid all these jazz standards and cabaret songs we’ve got a rock song right out of the…80s, I think? Only Happy When It Rains is also a bit of a stand out among the rest of the tunes. Personally, I would have preferred if they had gone the route of Postmodern Jukebox and adapted these tunes to a more appropriate style of music for the rest of the set list. A minor thing within an excellent evening.
My overall impression
What a wonderful show. The music and dancing were top notch. The costumes – oh, the costumes! – they were beautiful. The singers all had great, powerful voices and filled their songs with emotion – from the bittersweet, to the heartbreaking, to the comedic – they took the audience on a tour of Paris. The dancers always told a compelling story with their terrific choreography. And I would be amiss to not mention the band – wonderful musicians. And at 10 bucks a ticket, this is by far one of the best deals of the Fringe.
