Former Daytona resident having success as Hollywood actress

Janab Kareem Davis, a former Daytona Beach resident, is receiving accolades for her work as a Hollywood actress.

Davis recently acted in a play, “Chatter,’’ that won three awards at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

The play was nominated for six awards. The festival is described as an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community.

“Chatter’’ is a dark comedy “about battling the destructive voices that tear us down from within our own mind.’’

‘Anxiety’ in play
The play was written, directed and produced by writer Natasha Lewin and featured a diverse, all-female cast. It deals with mental health issues.

Actress Janab Kareem Davis, daughter of Dora and Abdul Kareem of Ormond Beach, and the cast of the play “Chatter,” recently received six nominees and three awards at the 2017 Fringe Festival in Los Angeles.

“Chatter” is an intense play where mental health issues are tackled and expressed. Davis played the part of “Anxiety.”

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Since 2010, each June the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: Fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers. HFF Scholarship Winner CHATTER

Hollywood Fringe Festival 2017 Scholarship Winner CHATTER tackles the battle we all face against our own inner voices of self-doubt.

Award-winning screenwriter Natasha Lewin’s first foray into LA theater is a dark comedy loosely based on her own struggles as a mixed Jewish woman, and with her experiences with suicide.

The story follows Vanessa as she attempts to silence the voices that tell her she’s not young, black, Jewish, thin, white, and together enough to be a complete person.

A diverse, female cast is heading up the production.

CHATTER has also partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for the run of the show as well.
