Hollywood, CA: Talking Blues: Two One-Acts by Cecilia Fairchild is proud to present its world premier at the Los Angeles LGBT Center as part of the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival.
We live in the present, it seems like – but the past comes on us like a tide, seeping and spreading until we are married to it again, living it again. Ms. Fairchild’s American Gothic double-feature examines the way memory fuses itself to us, no matter how far we think we’ve come.
We are in good company as these parallel two-person narratives place us knee-deep in the poetic viscera of bad love. For better and for worse, our best fiends have left their marks, and all we can do after time hunts us down is to reach for redemption. From the plains of Oklahoma to a roach infested LA apartment, father and daughter reach for it. In a Catholic cemetery in the desert of West Texas, old flames reach for it.
