The central subject of both one-acts is RELATIONSHIPS — father-daughter and ex-spouses. Fascinating subjects, but they can be uncomfortable to watch — Not So Here! The nuanced interactions of these complex people are presented with such tenderness (and often humor) that it’s a joy to watch — and every actor was a perfect conduit of the beautiful language and feeling of this play. I don’t know how something can be so gentle and so edgy at the same time, but there lies the fun!
What I didn't like
I knew that both these one-acts were set deeply in the American West, which I love. I thought I would miss seeing this reflected in an elaborate set (minimal sets being an inevitable consequence of the flexibility needed to participate in the Fringe). But it turned out that the minimalism — evocative as it still was — just brings the audience in closer, as your imagination becomes a participant in the play.
My overall impression
I loved this show!
