Les is one of the most charming performers I’ve seen.
What I didn't like
His connection with the audience is SO good that sometimes it slows the pace down. Especially in the transitions. It could be tightened a little bit. BUT don’t lose that connection (not worried about that!)
My overall impression
Great engagement with the audience. Les’s joy is palpable and immediately infuses his audience and we are on his journey with him. I hate the use of the word "journey " in Solo Shows but LESTAKES A JOURNEY! A real one…it’s just a cruise….but it’s a cruise with his Republican In-Laws. Whoa. It’s a ride. He might have a hard time with them personally but he DOESNOT have a problem with them as an actor….he portrays them honestly and humorously and dare I say it….lovingly. This is the payoff. This creates tension between his character(himself) but the importance he puts on these characters is what makes for great writing and acting. He handles themes of racism, politics and coping without pushing or hitting you over the head. Great writing.
