Great dramatic play that tackles big themes without being stuffy. Gangsters dealing with shifting roles, friendship, aging, and identity. Everyone has either dealt with the same issues directly or watched someone struggle with them. It's fun to see 2 wise guys face it with lots of profanity. It builds to an emotional punch really well. Fine, character-driven performances fuel this touching, melancholy story of an aging Mafia gangster, of former renown, in the sunset years of his life, facing hardship and the reality that his glory years are behind him. His only companion, seemingly, is his longtime dedicated employee - a Mafia bodyguard. It may be hard to believe that a play about a couple of aging gangsters can have a big heart...but it does! The story had great humor and was also very touching. Subtle moments. Time to breathe but never dragging. Conversation twists and good flow of conversation with a lot of heart. I found this play engaging from the start. Schumachers sound design helps transport the audience into an old apartment waiting to be abandoned and the two actors make you want to stay there. The dynamic between the two characters ripples with years of unspoken understanding that is tested through out the show to great effect. The actors both fit their parts so well, it was excellently cast and executed. The venue, set, and sound design serve the story very well, creating the perfect environment for this story of an aging mobster and his long-time body guard as they struggle to adapt to the changing world. The relationship between the two men is poignant and dynamic, it kept my attention for the full story and still managed to surprise me with the twist at the end. Great show! ... full review

This production really stands out among Fringe shows for drama. Audience is drawn up into an intimate piece exploring a quiet crisis in the lives of two mobsters. Jack Stroud and Eric Blair have great chemistry, giving performances that are both masculine and vulnerable. Austin Schumaker envelopes them in a soundscape that heightens the reality of a high-rise apartment that must be vacated. Nathan Ondracek directs this 1991 work with perfect pacing; a great ear for the rhythm of conversations. Don't miss this!... full review
