What I liked

A very interesting character and a great tribute to write a play about someone that was ground breaking and important and forgotten. I especially liked the scenes that dealt with racism and sexism to remind us how far we have come and how far we still need to go. The scenes between Florence Nightingale (who I really knew nothing about either) were very good and helped put things in perspective very much.

What I didn't like

Volume volume volume. All of the actors need to project more especially Mary since she is our lead. The brother and Florence really spilled out into the audience. Scene changes need to happen quicker….leave set pieces ON the stage so the action is not broken up. It really kills the momentum and the writing is fast past and sharp…this stops the flow.

My overall impression

A very important piece and a history lesson that we all need. Good job Matthew.
