What I liked
Although I have watched magic acts on television in the past, I think this was the first time I attended a live magic show. I found magician Jon Armstrong to be entertaining and magically talented. He solicited audience participation for many of his tricks which I thought heightened the engagement of the audience. His humor was light and family friendly; any mature innuendos were above the one young child (8 – 10 years old) at the show. I enjoyed his DIY approach to his tricks and by far, his mathematical tricks were the most impressive.
What I didn't like
Regrettably, the small afternoon audience (a dozen or so) did result in less energy for Jon to feed from as he did his tricks. He increased his energy and enthusiasm, which was infectious to us in the audience. I think in this regard, his humor was very helpful, however, that said, there a few times when I wasn’t sure if there was a punchline coming or if the trick was done. I think with more folks in the audience, the tempo and presentation would have been spot on.
My overall impression
I thoroughly enjoyed Jon’s show and wish I had time to see his other show that is running concurrently to this act. I’m glad I got to see this one – definitely worth the time!
