HOLLYWOOD FRINGE ‘PLAY WITHOUT A PLAY’ EXTENDED AT SACRED FOOLS THEATER STUDIO

June 26, 2017

Kinsherf’s Coat To Play Bonus (Non) Performance June 29 at 8:00pm

Los Angeles, CA—If actor Brian Wallace had more sold-out crowds like he’s drawn by producing Kinsherf’s Coat, he’d be on stage more often. The thing is, this latest play doesn’t have a cast at all.

“It’s a play without a play,” he says, and somehow it has been filling seats since it opened as part of the Hollywood Fringe on June 9. The annual festival and celebration of all things theatrical officially closed over the weekend, but a few productions have been selected by their venues to continue their runs. Wallace’s “pre-show experience” will take the stage once more at the Sacred Fools Studio Space at 8pm on Thursday, June 29.

The idea is pretty simple. Audiences walk into the theater, behold a stage set (designed by scenographers Brittany Blouch and Diane Dwyer), listen to house music and read a playbill. It’s just like showing up to attend any play, only in this case the performance never happens. After abou

UNNAMED SOURCES DISCLOSE KINSHERF’S COAT A ‘REAL HIGHLIGHT’ OF HOLLYWOOD FRINGE

Dramatic Leaks State the ‘Play Without a Play’ is Actually Fun, Innovative

Los Angeles—Bombshell reports have surfaced as the Hollywood Fringe sets to open that the weird, experimental “pre-show” experience Kinsherf’s Coat is a surprisingly good and fun event, despite offering no actual performance. Officially opening on Friday June 9, the “play without a play” invites audiences to take their seats, peruse a playbill and look at a stage set. After 45 minutes, however, the experience ends with no performance having taken place.

Internal sources say that far from being just a big laugh put on by an aging and frustrated actor, producer Brian Wallace, Kinsherf’s Coat emphasizes the zest and camaraderie of an artsy night out. At least one person with direct knowledge of the project has stated that the program audiences will get is “clever” and “hilarious,” and a leaked email from a participant begins with the phrase, “THIS. IS. AWESOME. [sic]”

'Kinsherf's Coat' To Open June 9 Despite Having No Cast

May 31, 2017

LOS ANGELES—What if you went to a play, and there was no play? You’re in a theater space, you see a full set in front of you, and even have a playbill in hand listing cast photos and bios. But a performance never actually takes place.

Well, now you can. It’s called Kinsherf’s Coat, billed as a “pre-show” experience at the Hollywood Fringe June 9, 15 and 24th. The project will be staged, if that’s the word, at the Sacred Fools Studio Space at 1076 Lillian Way in West Hollywood.

“It’s the only show that can guarantee things won’t get worse once the lights go down,” assures producer Brian Wallace. “There’s a certain pleasure in sitting in the house before a play. Leafing through the program, talking to a companion, scanning the crowd for familiar faces.”

And there is something to look at, as well. A full set design has been rendered and assembled by Brittany Blouch and Diane Dwyer, and will be on display throughout the 45-minute experience.
