What I liked
Loved it. With the huge spotlight on the Brock Turner case, this show feels truly “ripped from the headlines.” It’s an unflinching exploration of rape culture and what it can do to a person. At the same time, I dare say this is possibly the first “rape comedy” I’ve ever seen. The crime itself is never treated lightly but the elements and characters of the supporting story are many times laugh out loud funny. And it’s done flawlessly as Laura introduces the audience to several characters using only voice and mannerisms to distinguish them – quite a feat during scenes with as many as 5 characters talking, yet all remain distinct and clear.
What I didn't like
Honestly, my single critique is with the “MMHMM” portion of the title. It wasn’t until after the show had ended and I read the details here on the HHFF site that I made the connection. And when I was searching for it, it took a bit to find it because I didn’t remember it exactly and typing just “MM” in the search brings up no results.
My overall impression
Great, great show. Strong writing, perfect characterizations, and a brave balance of comedy and grit with such delicate subject matter.
