What I liked
“Sticky Fingers” is an absolute gem — GO!!
I love the Fringe… you walk into a black box with a few dozen strangers and get somebody’s fresh, unexpected creative vision presented to you on a platter. “Sticky Fingers” did that and more. I expected it to be funny, and it was. I didn’t expect it to be wistful, cocky, matter-of-fact, slippery, goofy, and unbelievably touching. This show took me on a JOURNEY. That word gets overused, but it’s fitting here. Like with Willy Wonka on the Oompah-Loompah-piloted boat in the dark, there was something revelatory waiting around every bend. Terry Anne Holzman has written a remarkable play that should become a staple for theaters everywhere because it’s both beautifully written and a delightful showcase for a company of talented actresses. The cast is terrific, particularly the young woman who plays the store’s security person. Such a quietly assured performance that becomes more and more nuanced as the show progresses. The staging by director Ernie Holzman is effective, too… really making use of the show’s one-room setting and the limitations of the load-it-in, load-it-out black-box format of the show. This play is an absolute gem. Go!!
What I didn't like
Nothing! Except the jerkwads who kept coming in late, and the one audience member who insisted on texting during the show. Manners, people!
My overall impression
An outstanding theatrical experience. I feel like I won the Fringe lottery!
