The Many Women of Troy

musicals and operas · pallas theatre collective · Ages 12+ · United States

A postmodern adaptation of Euripides’ Greek tragedy, this musical collage of war and suffering throughout history is seen through the eyes of five strong women wrestling with loss: Cassandra, the bitter prophetess; Andromache, the naive mother; Polyxena, the lost child; Hecuba, the vengeful queen; and Helen, the face that launched a thousand ships. They journey from Ancient Troy to modern times and back again, witnessing the causes and ramifications of human anger, ignorance, apathy, and hate. As they struggle though immeasurable grief and rail against the horrors of violence, they finally come to understand the improbable yet absolutely necessary need to rise above and move beyond repeating the mistakes of the past.
