So much of art, especially within the art community (because, let's face it, we care most about what our peers think, no?), has a great deal to do with speaking the unsaid and showing the unseen. The more an artist dares to do this, it seems the more praise he/she receives. Unless it is about an unpopular subject matter. Surely a better illustration of irony there cannot exist. This is why I enjoyed this show. Carla hid little in this exploration of oneself within a culture and world completely contrary to the self. This show takes a subject that often at its best is boring, and at its worst is alienating and makes it universally acceptable to examine, enjoy, and often cringe. It allowed all of us, no matter our sexual histories, to be with her on this journey.Katelyn's work as the virgin is engaging and at times alarming. She so thoroughly connects with the audience, that we couldn't help but be there with her as she explored the nebulous boundaries of her virginity. It has a universal truth strung through a very personal narrative, and all audience members, no matter their background, can walk away with a lot of laughs, and some new insights. ... full review
