My overall impression
I saw the first preview of this production and I would definitely recommend it. The blazing pace and excellent comedic chops of the cast don’t overshadow the deeper, truthful heart of this emotionally engaging puzzle.
We are introduced to only 2 characters at a time, learning about their particular relationship as each scene unfolds. You are given just enough to make you think you understand who they are, but when they appear in other scenes with different partners, new discoveries are made each time. It can turn from highly comedic, laugh out loud comedy in one instant and the next you are reaching for your hankie. The themes and situations are both universal and yet unique, and the witty dialogue is consistently delivered with honesty by this talented ensemble. I found myself being stunned in moments of unexpected pathos and then brought back to tears of laughter just as quickly. There isn’t a dull moment here and I found myself wanting more when it was over.
