My overall impression

Really great physical work and I loved the staging of this show! Was it a comedy? No. Was it funny? At times.

Personally, I am not a fan of one man shows. It’s hard to build a relationship with someone who isn’t there. It’s even harder for the audience to believe a relationship that isn’t there. Penny did very well with creating a believable environment by following not present people with her eyes and her very specific gestures. Her monologue work was beautiful and well paced.

The play is written so that Penny plays all the characters in the show. The first conversation worked very well- side A spoke first / black out / side B spoke second, same conversation. It was funny. There were things revealed about the characters beautifully in that way. But after that the formula changed. Person A spoke / black out / person B spoke sometime later… It didn’t work as well because we needed to see an on stage relationship in order to justify the change in formula.

If this show is to continue in development I strongly recommend a re-write to a 2 person show. Penny has a good thing here but she looses the audience with the disconnected script.
