The Video Games is absolutely amazing! I enjoyed every bit of it from the fighting, to the improv, and of course the voting! Such innovative ways to engage the audience and keep the show moving. Everyone should see this show, especially since it will be a different show every time! I know I'll be going again because Donkey Kong must win!... full review

So I've been playing video games ever since I can remember. I still play them, and quite frequently. That being said, I am the target demographic for this show. The fight choreography in this show is brutal in the best way. It is evident that a great deal of time was spent refining each character's individual style of fighting and they pull it off quite well. Some standout moments is when Donkey Kong pummels the stage like a ground stomp and all the other characters in perfect sequence drop right to the floor. Scorpions chain also comes into "play", which was pretty sweet. There are so many classic moments that are recreated that will titillate your nerdgasm to the extreme. The concept is brilliant, niche and perfect for a fringe show. They ... full review

I have now seen this show three times and each time has been beyond excellent!! This show is an hour of just pure theatre enjoyment and is the perfect type of show to see during fringe; fast-paced, interactive, abstract, and completely entertaining. I love how different each show has turned out while still maintaining the spirit of my favorite childhood video games. I've said it twice, I'll say it again-go. See. This. Show! I will be, without a doubt!... full review

As someone who's been playing video games since he was old enough to walk, this show was a dream come true for me. If you're looking for a show that speaks to your inner child, look no further. Gamers, geeks, nerds, improv lovers and stage combat fanatics, unite! This is one show you cannot miss. The Video Games features a wonderfully talented ensemble that really brings all of your favorite video game characters to life. And they know how to get down and dirty! The stage combat is as hilarious and entertaining as the characters themselves. Furthermore, with a show as stage-combat heavy as this, what's really impressive is that with this many characters, there are over 150+ different possible fighting scenarios that have ALL been choreograph... full review

Came to the matinee show on Sunday, the 14th. Normally, I don't like to come to matinees because of the stigma attached to them (low energy, etc.), but this was the only day I could really come. I was very pleasantly surprised! One of the best matinees I ever came to for any show! The show is very high energy and has many comic moments. The hosts are very engaging, and the "fighters" also caused good cringe-worthy moments in their choreography. I recommend this show to anyone who loved playing video games growing up (and still plays) and anyone who longs for childhood nostalgia. It was awesome to see characters of many different video game universes come together and interact. I came with a friend who already saw it, and because... full review

If you're a theatre purist - avoid this show. Also, go soak your head. Theatre at its best mirrors and elevates the world around it. So unless you've been living under a rock with your eyes shut and your fingers in your ears, video games are part of our cultural landscape, and are not going away anytime soon. This show will not hold your hand - if you're not a gamer, there are references that you won't get. If you're not familiar with the Hunger Games (or Battle Royale), you won't understand the stakes. And if you don't have a smartphone, then I guess just pout. The show is interactive, regardless of whether you have a mobile device or not - but having one makes you much more invested, and therefore makes the show more fun. But th... full review

You probably already know know that you should see this. So short and sweet. I have almost zero exposure to The Hunger Games. I don't think this hurt me at all. I am a child of the late 80s+ video game era. This definitely heightened my enjoyment. The take away of the above is that I LOVED the concept, I was in from the pressing of *start*. The performances were quite good. In particular I enjoyed the Sheik/Zelda dynamic. But where this piece really shines (aside from its excellent fight choreography) is audience engagement. The show handled very well the balance between enough audience involvement for it to feel meaningful and impactful, without letting it bog down the experience. I genuinely want to know the roads no... full review

This show was a gamer girl's dream. The cast embodied their various characters with aplomb and flexibility, which was essential for the improvisational aspects of the show. The fight scenes were on point, the dialogue witty and at times very wicked, and the interactive aspect really added to the experience. From the writing, to the combat, to the gaming inspired accompaniment, The Video Games was layered to perfection, and left me wanting to come back again to see some of the other possible outcomes. A must see for this year's Fringe. I would hazard a guess that even the non-gamers out there would be swept up by this cast's energy and have a good time. ... full review

Very fun, and a grand surprise. The combination of iconic video game characters with the set of the Hunger Games was brilliantly done. The fight choreography is damn impressive, and most importantly fun. It is always a gem when you see a well put show and see that the actors are also enjoying the ride with you. For a fight show mix with interactive theatre, "The Video Games" is top notch, and does justice to honor their source material.... full review
