A great concept brought to life using a ton of clever elements. What it needs is just a little more polish and clarity to be a truly great show. This show is full of larger-than-life personalities - video game characters, each the central figure of their respective franchises - and when you've got that many powerful personalities on stage at once, scenes need to be very clean and crisp, with clear, precise direction and blocking in order to avoid devolving into chaos. There were a few moments during group scenes with the whole cast on stage where so many things were happening at once, the experience felt overwhelming. However, once the battles began, the show fell into an entertaining rhythm, and I found myself invested in the story. The... full review

As a fan of both The Hunger Games and video games, I really enjoyed a lot of the jokes in this show. Knowledge of The Hunger Games isn't really necessary to understand it, but if you don't have at least a passing knowledge of video games, particularly those from the 80's, you might find yourself at a bit of a loss. The fight choreography was OUTSTANDING, particularly in the one-on-one battles. The stand-out was Link, who was fully committed to making the classic sound effects and had a line that brought down the house. I did feel that it took awhile to get going since they had to explain all the ways the audience can interact and introduce all of the characters. It might flow better if they lost a couple of fighters and one of the ... full review

This show was one of the most fun theater experiences that I have ever had! The experience starts as soon as you step on the property to get your tickets. The players are wandering around and mingling with the crowd, trying to convince you to vote for them. I went to see this show by myself, but I never felt alone. The actors enthusiasm for the show was infectious. The stage combat was fantastic. They used the space so well. I am going to contact the company and see if we could bring this show to the school that I work at, and maybe have a stage combat workshop. Go see this show. Seriously. I wish that I had been able to see it every time that it was performed. I hope it gets an extension because there are so many people that I ... full review

This is the show to which you go tipsy and have a great time. If you're a seasoned gamer, you'll enjoy the homework that the cast and direction have done to make this a love letter to 20-somethings who grew up with a gamepad in their grubby hands. I saw Megaman assume his "taking damage frame" from the original game and Donkey Kong use his down+B ground pound from Super Smash Bros. Melee. There are probably more easter eggs in the choreography but I was too busy trying to frantically vote for my favorite characters to catch some of the fights. Fun show with multiple endings.... full review

SO MUCH FUN. Seriously it's an easy hour and a half to sit through. If you haven't seen it before or maybe haven't seen it since last Fringe, go again. Quick Audience Tip: Don't be afraid to tweet your heart out during the show and yell for the characters!!! This is so clearly meant to be interactive with the audience. Cheer and boo people! ... full review

Did you ever think you could have a conversation with Donkey Kong? What about Mario? Or Samus (from Metroid)? Well, in The Video Games, you can! The Video Games is a play off of “The Hunger Games”, but using video game characters. You’ll see (and meet) characters from Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Halo, and more. They all try to get you to vote for them (via Twitter hashtags) for them to survive and earn the ultimate title of “Player One”. This brings a fun and “replayable” aspect to the show since no show will end the same. (I heard people in back of me say that the last time they went, Scorpion won). If you aren’t a gamer, you can still recognize some characters (right Russell?). There are some nerdy deep cuts that peopl... full review

This new rebooted version of this show is FANTASTIC. The costumes, the new actors, some new dialogue, and the new staging is all great. Really cleaned up the show.
