The Orig-O-naL Theater Company Debuts Their Inaugural Production the Blacks: A Clown Show at Hollywood Fringe

Los Angeles—June 6, 2015—The Orig-O-naL theatre company is pleased to announce their opening of “The Blacks: A Clown Show” at this years Hollywood Fringe. The show opens June 6, 2015 at The Other Space at The Actors Company in West Hollywood and runs 5 shows through June 20, 2015.

Using the framework of a play within a play, the show exposes racial prejudice and stereotypes while exploring black and gay identity. As a troupe of black actors re-enact the trial and ensuing murder of a white woman before a kangaroo court, they discover the pain in the space between who they are, and what society has created them to be. Buckling under this pressure and revelation, a revolution occurs, and The Blacks begin to rise up. As the black actors perform for a white court, the proceedings began to move far from a Variety Show and into dangerous and foreign territories.

Using the power of crowd funding, The Orig-O-naL Theater Company hopes to raise money for the production of the Jean Genet classic, The Blacks: A Clown Show, at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Los Angeles, April 28th, 2015——The Orig-O-naL theatre company is using the power and social conscious of the crowd fund movement to raise money for their inaugural production of The Blacks: A Clown Show at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. The small theater company describes itself as a group that is “… dedicated to examining, probing, and discussing the social perceptions surrounding race, identity, gender, sexuality, and religion,” so the selection of Genet’s play is almost the perfect extension of their color, race, and gender-conscious artistic credo. With a manifesto of perpetually expanding and deepening social awareness, there is no other choice than Genet’s provoking play about the murder of a white woman before a kangaroo court.
