Since you’re trafficking in Retro Stereotypes, why not just call it I LOVEBRUCE-IE, instead of saddling it with a dorky label like MY GAYHUSBAND? Like many shows at this year’s fest, it’s a High (CounterCulture) Concept, but for a $12 tab (less Button discount) I expected more than 35 minutes of mild mirth—- including curtain calls. Seems to have been written BY people who don’t know the 1950s FOR people who don’t know the period. Cast does OK, considering, but the real treat was the “surprise” appearance of the toweringly talented Clayton Shane Farris (in a contemporary part that may, or may not, have been improvised). The night before I saw him playing a title role in MAXANDELSA, in the style of a 1930s Peter Sellers, and he was brilliant! He seems just to have been passing through THIS show, though—-too bad!
