My overall impression

Absolutely heartbreaking. Any story about Berlin in the 1930s must be heartbreaking – one goes in assuming it can’t end well. Yet we immediately root for these sisters anyway, as completely charming and deserving and maybe just clever enough to survive the brutal intolerance of the Nazi regime. This is a fascinating historical piece, with stunningly strong performances by Emily and Elizabeth Hinkler. Well done.
