My overall impression

I’m in agreement with all the positive reviews of this very funny farce. One-person shows are ripe for spoofing, but since so many farces become forced, they aren’t grounded in reality; luckily, The 7th Annual One-Man Show World Championships is. Although the context—a “Best Of” line-up of parodied acts—has been seen before, the difference here is in the writing by Jim Hanna (who also offers the best performance of the night). His four contestants, whether egotistical and self-absorbed or unaware of how they come off, are all perfect prototypes of solo players at the fringe. So, too, is the fawning host, who loves everything about everyone. My only concern here is that Caitlin Rucker—who is an amazing one-woman shoe BEHIND the scenes, and lights and stages beautifully, allows her players to go to extremes that aren’t always believable. Still, a highly recommended affair!
