details | reviews | press

It had been a law in Flugelhorn, for as long as anyone could remember, that only a son of the King could rule. And if the King had no son, the Kingdom must be ruled by a son of the Duke. The princess (the King’s only child) being thus disqualified, the Duke’s son — Young Prince Basil — is all set to take over the monarchy! He is raised, trained and educated for this purpose only. Just one problem – Basil is secretly a girl. Thus begins LA playwright Jan O’Connor’s “The Girl Who Would Be King”, inspired by Mark Twain’s short story “A Medieval Romance”. This world premiere is an uproariously funny, sweet and wildly theatrical tale of power, love and sexual politics presented by Absolute Theatre and Full Circle Theatrics at the historic El Centro Theater in Hollywood, directed by multiple award nominated director Richard Tatum.
