My overall impression
“Bittersweet Love” is a truly beautiful piece. Daurden Contemporary Dance Theatre is an incredibly gifted group of dancers and I felt mesmerized by the entire performance. From a magical sky-high aerialist to the moving pieces on the ground, this show takes you on a journey from the intoxicating highs and devastating lows of love in all of its forms. My favorite piece told the story of a love triangle in which the staging illustrated the story of the unfaithful man and his lover on one side and his unknowing girlfriend on the other. There was something about seeing this side-by-side stage picture of the infidelity happening while the other partner is alone that just broke my heart. There were also many joyful pieces that captured the reckless abandon that love inspires in the soul. The use of thought provoking quotes and captivating music in combination with the performance of these exquisite dancers was very enjoyable. I think this show is the only one of its kind at this year’s Fringe and it is a breath of fresh air. I loved it and I recommend it as a Must-See! Especially for those who are looking to take a break from words and delve into an experience that is told entirely through movement.
