My overall impression

A wide variety of films. Many of them comic, but a few deeply disturbing, and one quite dramatically poignant. Each night is a different slate of movies, so you won’t see the same films I did. Instead I’ll talk about the collective, which is comprised of anyone who has ever attended one of their free events. It’s a group of friendly filmmakers who, true to their name, make movies. They operate on a principle of community development, and work hard to support each other without demanding any sort of compensation. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to know that no fees (and no scammy alternatives) are charged to be a member of the community. By taking money out of the equation, members can be assured that the organization has no financial ulterior motive and does truly abide by its guidelines and is there to help filmmakers make their movies.

Maybe it seems weird to obsess about that, but if you’ve ever been lost in the Hollywood wilderness, you may have noticed how many organizations are there to prey on filmmakers and separate them from their money. We Make Movies is a community you can trust. It’s made up of people who want to make movies and make movies and want to help overthrow the problematic elements that take advantage of movie-makers.
