My overall impression

There is an awful lot to say about this show and I’m so glad I saw it. It was not the history as much as these characters that I can’t get out of my mind. (Although I learned a lot about segregated Vegas) I guess I feel that I myself ping eternally between the worlds of Sweet Bojanski Brown and The Amazing Daisy (the Amusing Daisy). Like many of us, these two characters are trying to make their marks as artists. Their personalities are at the opposite end of the spectrum. The memory that sticks with me most is when Sweet Bojanski Brown rambles on about her impossible dreams of success, her mouth running amok – she gets this beatific glow on her face that is almost religious. She reminded me of Linus from Peanuts – being lost in a especially enchanting bit of Beethoven. Daisy is a searcher too, but wraps it in a tough exterior and a hard superiority. She comes to the painful realization that she is not as gifted as she has always thought she was. It’s brutal and heartbreaking. The way these two come together meant a lot to me, I guess because sometimes it seem so impossible to find close friendships in our 21st century, here in LA, where everyone is frantically grasping 24 hours a day. Go see it, if you are looking for something to think about…
