My overall impression

“You got me at ‘1945’”!

I, too, love period pieces, so I was very happy with this story taking place during that time and exploring themes in a way that we don’t often see (mental illness and the African-American perspective or voice on Patriotism).

I would love to see more from this story, it’s characters and it’s journey. I left the theater with a lot of questions that kept me thinking about the play long after I left. I was enchanted with the mystery of it, with the questions of “what if she…?”, “when did they…”, “what happened when…”. I truly enjoyed the writing, acting and the directing. I’m excited to see what Maryam’s (writer) next incarnation of this piece will take…if not for the sole reason of seeing her character Eleanor grow further into the subtle, compelling, very interesting giant that she is.
