Down In Front

This is so much fun. Wish it would be expanded into a full-length play. The lead actor Daniel Dorr is worth the visit alone. A powerhouse of enviable physicality and emotional discomfort, he never allows a dull moment. He keeps the show afloat, along with his female co-star and an array of fully committed side-kicks. Absolutely LOVED it. Will go again!! Kudos to the writer Steven Waverly! This is great entertainment with depth.... full review

This play is funny, poignant, angry, enraging, vulgar, sophisticated and then painfully moving. The lead, played by Daniel Dorr, has so many layers of personality, you will find yourself in one of them. Even his love interest and the secondary and background characters are more complex. Bravo to the director, Gabrieal Griego. You don't find writing like this on stage, movies or TV very often. This show is a gem. ... full review

Bravo and lots of thumbs up! I have to admit, I squirmed a bit at first when I walked into the theatre and saw an entire five rows of theatre seats on the stage and they were all facing us in the audience. For a minute I wondered who was really on stage! And then I saw myself in almost each and every one of those characters on the stage. I don't want to give too much away about the story, so I will just say that I personally laughed ALOT and OFTEN! It was the kind of laugh where you can totally relate to the characters and what they are going through, because we have probably all been in each character's position before in real life. It was a fantastic comedy. I laughed and I cried. The fast paced script, intriguing characters, and the use of extras kept this play moving. The script was memorable, my boyfriend and I have been quoting phrases ever since. The main character, Paul, is neurotic and I felt an immediate connection to his character from the beginning. Antonio's personality and looks were a perfect balance Paul's neurotic nerdy behavior. All in all, I highly recommend this play. It will be an excellent way to spend a night out.... full review

What a refreshing breeze this play is in the otherwise pungent wake of hollywood blackbox theatre. The writers voice is surprisingly clear in an almost Neil Simon-esque comedy about the overbearingly nervous and neurotic protagonist Paul and hes desperate attempts to deal with what the rest of us let roll off our backs every day. Actor Daniel Dorr's portrayal of the mile a minute Paul has all the idiosyncrasies and charm of a fully formed basket case. Very well done! This play is a wonderful night out and an exceptional execution on all levels. Highly recommended.... full review

The best part about this show was the performance of the two lead actors, especially their ability to make neurosis look like an Olympic sport and to convey just the right amount of angst and self-loathing that was appropriate at the time. It is a unique combination that worked. On the technical side, it was a little ridiculous starting almost 20 mins late and then having the show run over. I know this is the Fringe and stuff happens, but that's the exact reason why you have to strive so hard to be on time. I"m just glad this show was worth the wait.... full review

A really well written and astute observation of extreme neurosis, which I suspect everyone can relate to on some level. The two leads were very strong as was the supporting cast, particularly Michael Harrison in the role of the Commissaire - a very talented young actor - and I was particularly impressed with the strength and quality of performance dynamics between Michael and the lead Daniel. Would love to see more of them both in scenes together. Well done to everyone involved in this clever and absorbing piece.... full review

DOWN IN FRONT is a hilarious tour de force showcasing the neurotically tinged relationship of a couple (déjà vu?) who non-communicate as two ships passing in the night, however at top decibels. Daniel Dorr as the hyperkinetic suspicious and not a little paranoid protagonist never stops moving nor talking. Badgering his girlfriend (charmingly and deflectively played by Julie Bersani) to tell him why she does not want to go to Chicago with him to meet his parents, he gives a virtuoso Angst-riddled performance that would do Woody Allen proud. All this drama of the 65-minute play takes place in a imaginary theater, which adds to the anxiety of Dorr's character because of various noises and more patrons make.
