Down In Front

This is so much fun. Wish it would be expanded into a full-length play. The lead actor Daniel Dorr is worth the visit alone. A powerhouse of enviable physicality and emotional discomfort, he never allows a dull moment. He keeps the show afloat, along with his female co-star and an array of fully committed side-kicks. This is a very funny and insightful comedy about the relationship between men and women. It's presented as the couple we get to know very well are watching a play - and their world is full of aggravation and mental disturbances. The two leads are superb, one can relate to their issues, and there are truly hilarious moments. The play is complemented by some wonderful use of evocative music. There are some unexpected shifts in tone that hold surprises, too. ... full review

Hilarious and a tour de force by the two lead actors! Mental gymnastics at its finest as the male half of a couple has many meltdowns over theatre seats, chatty audience members, and most importantly, why his girlfriend may or may not be going with him to visit the parents for the first time.... full review

I am a pretty tough critic, but this play deserves a high recommendation from me. I’m lacking the words to say something different about it other than the two reviews above me, so I echo the same sentiments as those two. I will say that I personally related to parts of this play, so it was very interesting to see those aspects presented on a stage. Out of the many choices of shows to see during the Fringe this year, please put this at the top of your list! ... full review

It was a darkly funny look at how humans annoy each other to the point of neurosis. I saw myself in so many of the characters... and laughed at them, as well as myself. What a mind reader that writer must be... to have captured the way that so many of us think and then take it to the inevitable implosion. So well done.... full review

The play was HILARIOUS, well written and well casted. My favorite character was Antonio he added a nice twist in the script and perfectly casted. I would recommend everyone see for a great series of belly aching laughs. ... full review

So coming in, there isn't much to see as far as a set... could have been a good thing or a bad thing, I mean part of going to a play is the images and set, right? Well, this one definitely set the mood correctly. We all have a degree of angst and neurosis, much of the time we (at least I do) push it to the back of my mind. Not tonight, Down in Front made me Sit Up Straight and chuckle not just at the actors, but myself. I love when an actor can express himself with his whole body, his pleadings not just audio, but visual, drawing me into his dilemma, making me feel his angst, making me short of breath. Great comedy! We need more like this. Big cast, great actors. It's like Woody Allen goes OCD postal in a theater bringing many laughs. Makes me wonder who I sit next to when I go to the theat-ta. Must see!!!... full review

This play is funny, poignant, angry, enraging, vulgar, sophisticated and then painfully moving. The lead, played by Daniel Dorr, has so many layers of personality, you will find yourself in one of them. Even his love interest and the secondary and background characters are more complex. Bravo to the director, Gabrieal Griego. You don't find writing like this on stage, movies or TV very often. This show is a gem. ... full review
