This was terrific theater, the best kind of surprise. The big things and the little things. Start with the the writing – sharp, twisting, clever, wry and laugh out loud funny. It hit the sweet spots without you even noticing, and kept right on moving. Rare is the day you get ambushed by good.
Then the directing – here’s where the little things show up time and again. The main actors got it right, but the supporting actors also doing the right things in the moment for extra comic of dramatic touches if you’re fast enough to catch it all. If not, see the play again. And the acting – the lead could teach Woody Allen a thing or two about how to play anxiety. Yes, he was that good. The whole plate o’ shrimp was thoroughly refreshing.
