My overall impression

One of the things we forget to do before we die (so I hear) is to tell the people in our lives how much we love them. Easy enough, I suppose. Few people aspire to ruminate on their expiration date. “If You’re Watching This, I’m Dead.” does precisely this. It’s not as morbid or eerie as the title sounds, in fact, the play proves to be a wonderfully genuine comedy that parades everything from dark family secrets to life’s unexpected foilbles for everyone to see. Lisa Cole writes and performs with such authenticity and humility that you don’t know whether to laugh or cry with her. The hallmark of a good show is it’s simplicity- story, action and catharsis. “IYWTID” is simple and endearing to watch. Lisa Cole takes us on a journey in remembering the people who have shaped her life with a multitude of voices from her past and takes pause to thank them- to tell them how much she loves them in spite of everything. In doing so, “IYWTID” serves as a reminder to honor the past by recognizing how it has shaped one’s present character, no matter how crazy, ugly, sad or confusing. While some often choose to depict life’s low points with solemnity and regret- Lisa Cole goes for the funny and delivers. Highly recommended.
