K@ Knips – Bite Size Fringe Reviews Week 3, by Kat Primeau
June 26, 2013THE MISS JULIE DREAM PROJECT – Fell Swoop Playwright’s exploration of and modern digressions upon Strindberg’s A DREAM PLAY and MISS JULIE is surreal, smart, and refreshingly funny. The story plays out along the lines of Durang’s THE ACTOR’S NIGHTMARE, with Miss Julie and the actress who plays her, Mina, dueling for sanity amidst a landscape of hegemonic masculinity and nightmarish threats of violence, no happy ending in sight. An overall charming and self-reflexive piece, the script at times feels like the assemblage of many voices that it is; however, I found myself engaged by the experiment and excited by the promising ambition of this new playwriting collective.

REVIEW: The Miss Julie Dream Project, by Analyn Revilla
June 19, 2013I like dreaming – and I remember my dreams vividly, and enjoy analyzing and talking about them. It could be a narcissist quirk, or I’m just hoping to unearth some answers to the eternal question, ‘what’s wrong with me?!’ So I’ve been reading up on dream interpretation. I learned that C.G. Jung and Freud differed on the subject of dream interpretation and techniques. “The Miss Julie Dream Project” straddles the real and surreal world of which is indeed like lucid dreaming.
On opening night, Mina, an actress who plays the classic heroine of Miss Julie, faces the heroine in the surreal world. Miss Julie refuses to surrender to her written fate. Her rebellion leads to a missing actress while her ensemble of actors and a director fumble through a performance without the lead character. The dream weaves i...
10 Shows I'm Looking Forward To At The Hollywood Fringe 2013 by Kat Primeau
June 16, 2013It’s that time of year again, the season of anticipation and excitement before Hollywood Fringe begins, when savvy producers are rolling out cross-marketing deals and dweeby theatre journalists are sifting through press releases to find what can’t be missed amidst the wealth of theatre heading our way. Call us obsessed, call us nut jobs (thanks, Colin), but this year Ben Hill and HFF have made it even easier to geek the f&*k out, introducing a festival app which allows you to search shows and create a Favorites list on your mobile device. I cozied down with mine and was appropriately delighted to find some promising shows on the horizon, along with old fringe favorites I can’t wait to catch again. While I know I will discover more audience-worthy fare at the opening night party and through thorough tactile exploration of the printed Fringe guide, the following shows (in no particular order) have already tickled my interest.
