The Show

WOW! This show was amazing. It was a preview/opening so nothing was polished, but I can say without any doubts this show is hilarious. It engaged the audience with it's comedic metta-theatrics; Which really went well with the goofy mystery story it was weaved into. I think I'm going back to see it again. Last night I went to see THE SHOW at the Open Fist Theatre. It was not what I was expecting. I thought I was going to see a regular staged radio play. This show was truly beautifully ridiculous. It combined social commentary into an old style radio show. Though the self awareness of the show being a show was a bit much for me, I feel that was the point. I've seen a lot of fringe show over the past three years and this one is definitely something new and worth seeing. ... full review

Maybe this was just me, but I just didn't get this show. It seemed to start as a radio show taking a journey through the history of communication, but then it turned into a noir-esque radio play. The two story lines didn't seem to go together, and neither was very interesting. ... full review

Saw this show for their opening. What a great time! The actors had great chemistry, there was live foley on stage, and the writing incorporated subtle humor, technophile references, and hilarious self-awareness. The show culminates with brilliant character by the entire ensemble performing a play within a play. Go!... full review

The Show started out as your "average radio play". I entered the Fringe Mainstage to find a handful of music stands set up alongside a table of objects to create folly effects. And that's about where your average radio play ends because The Show was a wild ride into iPhones, Twitter, and Film Noir. Max Oken, director and writer, set the tone for a night that seamlessly shifted between a classic radio show and the wrecks of modern day technology. The cast was made of an apt group of character actors and voice-over virtuosos, game to play along in Oken's absurd and comical world. The cast clearly was having a good time with this. While this type of free association writing script is not something that I necessarily enjoy it was entertaining and the sound effects and multiple characters played by the 5 member cast were fantastic. I felt that the script was a mash up of 2 incomplete scripts. I would have liked to see it stick to one plot line. Their strength as an ensemble and company is definitely in radio plays. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they do in the future!... full review
