My overall impression

Jason <3 Medea is a good example of a play in transition to becoming a better, full show. With that said, this is not a show for everyone, leaving many to figure out what they just witnessed.

Though a story still in its early stages of infancy with a lot of needed improvements, Jason <3 Medea is thought provoking and visually entertaining. The show attempts to revitalize the myth of Medea by focusing on a much younger version of the character than the weathered mother Euripides and many other playwrights have introduced us to.

The largest criticism I have for this show has nothing to do with the performances, but the script itself. Too indebted to the myth of Medea, the works of Tom Stoppard, and a fascination with time and meta-abstractness, Jason <3 Medea bites off more than it can chew for the running time of an hour and ten minutes.

The director Matthew Hill deserves a lot of praise for the work he is able to do with a script that panders to the many musings of it’s writer, and actors that aren’t quite of age for the roles they are portraying. The world Mr. Hill creates is an entrancing one, full of digital imagery that will leave any audience member visually satisfied. As I’ve told many friends that though the show is divisive, it does deserve an audience because there is still a lot that Jason <3 Medea has to offer.

Jason <3 Medea runs June 27 at 8:30 p.m., Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th at 11:30 p.m., with tickets at a cost of $15.
