My overall impression
Incredibly strong performances and solid direction couldn’t save a script that lacks both character arcs and crucial elements to tell a complete, or at least clear, story. I find myself echoing the question of other reviewers – what were we supposed to take away from this?
I felt like there could have been so much more meat to the story had there been actual conflict between the characters, or between the characters and their mysterious captors. Instead, any conflict is relegated to the background, as the scenario resolves itself almost immediately, with one character’s almost inexplicable acquiescence to the other, defanging the plot and robbing the audience of what could have been an incredible dramatic journey.
I’m impressed with the artistry. It’s a shame the writing didn’t measure up.
