I found the play to be enraged with emotion. The rapid fire dialogue and ferocious intensity of the subject matter enthralled me. The entire play was a great mystery of intention, filled with emotional, physical, and sexual tension. To me, I found that the subject of how dysfunctional relationships and intensions can be the very demise of one's soul. And above all, the humor was greatly placed and paced. All three performers were simply fantastic! Gutsy and brave performances. I loved the minimalistic set design, which cause the attention to be solely focused on the actors and their chosen words, which they all handled wonderfully. Buckle up, babes. This show is no joke. Stellar direction, and design, and not to mention ACTING. Wow, I have to say the ladies just tore it up. LAYERS of complexity in relationships, varying levels of inebriation throughout, everyone's high on something, and yet the show remains very grounded. I did not just lol, I LAUGHED OUT LOUD. It's dark, funny, twisted, raw, ridiculous, emotional, tragic, and beautiful. Can't wait to see what is next from this amazing creative team. ... full review

Given the space and Fringe constraints, the creative team put together a very good production, simply but well-designed, well-directed and well-acted. I thought the play had flashes of very good writing and I enjoyed the playwright's nihilism, especially when it was tinged with a touch of reflexive humor. On the whole, though, I found the play a bit too insular, especially given the very late revelation about the characters. At a certain point, it felt like it was circling the same hopeless drain a few too many times.... full review

This is a must-see. It's completely engaging, entirely theatrical, and very timely. This piece has the kind of original characters and heightened storytelling that remind us why theatre is necessary to revealing the invisible. Besides, all four actors give supremely professional, compelling, and daring performances. And big props to Ms. Hart for making such creative use of the small black-box space. I mean it when I say I couldn't bring myself to sit back in my chair. I laughed, cringed, and commiserated my way through the entire 60 minutes as though they had been 60 seconds.... full review

I was talking to a friend about this show this morning and she asked "What's it about?" I had no answer for her. A plot synopsis would be fairly useless for this show. And yet it's completely engrossing, challenging, raw, brutal and visceral. From the moment the audience steps into the space, we're immersed in the world of White Hot. It's dark, it's twisted and it's filled with words that dart around the theater at unbelievable speed while still managing to be wholly understandable. The amazing performances, spare noir-ish lighting and sound design all complement each other to bring this very tough script to vivid life. It's unlike anything else you'll see at Fringe. From the moment this show started I felt something crawling inside of me, my breath got heavy, my heart was pounding and I knew I was in for an evening of theater that would move me. The tension riding underneath this play is palpable and director Caitlin Hart knows just how to keep it going. The stillness and explosions are skillfully crafted but as an audience we can't see the seams, it just feels like a tattered mess in the best way possible, life is a tattered mess and the best we can do is try to make sense of it. The four characters are trying to do just that, make sense of their lives and the actors who play them are constantly working on one another, they're in it every moment and it's exciting to watch them work. I feel that Caitlin Hart is a fantastic director. And, The Vagrancy is poised to be one of LA's premiere new theatre companies. I feel that the cast of this play was astounding. The play itself is compelling and provocative and lyrical, but just slightly misses the mark...however, don't that let that stop you from seeing it. It's an experience. It's the kind of thing you need to form your own opinion of. Highly recommended. ... full review

This show was a surprise to me in its intensity and presentation of a subject that is often kept in the dark, despite its overwhelming presence in many facets of our daily lives. The Vagrancy and writer Tommy Smith have delivered a gem to the Fringe that simply must be experienced to be believed. The acting and sheer sexiness of Michal Sinnott as the slutty sister is worth more than the price of admission. A definite must see.... full review
