How am I supposed to compete with Kyle Gass' review!? I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I got on the Jesus Ride, but I'm sure glad I went! Michael Schlitt knows how to keep an audience engaged (LOVE his podcast - Early Bird Special). I totally dig his cynical humor. This is a witty and energetic ride with very clear and interesting plot points. This was the first show in a long time that really stuck with me for days afterward. Don't miss this show - go be entertained and enjoy the free popcorn! ... full review

From the moment you step into the theater, you know this show is going to be uniquely delightful. Heck, you know before you even step inside - but I don't want to give anything away. Just be prepared for a theatrical experience that is truly a RIDE -- sharp-witted solo performer Mike Schlitt and his ninja-like production team whisk the proceedings along with the fluidity and unexpected twists and turns of a really excellent theme park roller coaster. Schlitt brings scholarly insight, manic cartoon-like physicality, and naked honesty to this tale of fathers and sons, both onscreen and off. And there's some special treats for those of us who appreciate the cinema genre of "disasterpiece" - those movies that are so bad, they're good... Expertly... full review

Run!!! Do not walk to this incredible piece of theater. Witty, fun, interesting and so compelling is Mike Schlitt's one man show. Perfectly directed by Tracy Young. You won't regret money or time spent on this performance. It's proof that serious theatrical talent exists in Los Angeles. ... full review

This 6/21 show was surprisingly great, I came in having no idea what to expect. I especially enjoyed the way the solo actor welcomed us into the theatre and then back out - so original! I recommend this for the informative history lesson as well as the laughs!... full review

This is the story of two fathers, two sons, two hucksters, two shysters, and the epic tale that brought them all together. Mike Schlitt's sardonic wit combined with an inspired, frenetic delivery, takes the audience on a fantastic journey from Biblical times to modern-day Hollywood, with unexpected, side-splitting detours along the way. Tying it all together is a beautiful and heartfelt father/son love letter. If you can only see one show at this year's Fringe Festival, make it "Jesus Ride"!... full review

From the minute you enter the theater, get your free popcorn and strap yourself in for the Jesus Ride, you are in Mike Schlitt's capable hands. Clips from Jesus films, including the hilarious "ride" film Mike himself worked on, will leave you laughing and thinking; about art, the movie biz, religion and fathers and sons, the show is super-funny, fast-paced and well-written. Bring your date, bring a friend, bring your parents! There's something for everybody, and live theater is the great big city experience. Four stars and a choir of angels for "The Jesus Ride." ... full review

Go see Jesus Ride: a multi media tragedy, comedy, history, pastoral, pastoral-comical, historical-pastoral, tragical-historical, tragical-comical-historical-pastoral trip through Hollywood. I’ve seen it four times over the last 3 years and enjoyed all 80 (feels like 50) minutes each time. I laugh, I’m touched, and I learn something. Mike Schlitt’s personal story (his relationship with his TV writer father and his own journey making a dreadful Jesus movie) is juxtaposed against the Jewish-Christian history of Hollywood. ... full review

It's rare to see a show that really uses storytelling as an art distinct from that of theater. Mike Schlitt doesn't just address what we see on the stage, but how we get to the stage, what the context of the whole event is for us as we walk in the door and take our seats. It's a very funny piece, but also a thoughtful and moving one. I can't recommend it highly enough.... full review

Amazing show. Mike creates a fast paced, densely packed, laugh out loud, original one man theatrical experience that should not be missed. I can't wait to see it again, since I was laughing so much, I know I missed some of his profoundly revealing observations as he retells the making of another cinematic retelling of "the greatest story ever told." yes, a Jesus film. Get in line. Buy a ticket. You'll be glad you did. ... full review

Jesus Ride does indeed live up to the hype it's getting! It's a fun 80 minutes of laughs performed by the talented Mike Schlitt. Schlitt nicely combines multi-media movie clips with his own story making you feel like you are definitely living this experience with him. ... full review
