Tales of a Jaguar Magician

Get ready to get tripped out on a psychedelic creativity explosion. My pal Eric and I caught this show opening night and I left feeling inspired and full of ideas. As a show it is overflowing with beauty, puppets, wigs, glitter, sequins, and loads of gay magic. While it was sometimes hard to follow the storyline, the piece hit me more like a beautiful and strange dream. It was as if I were peeking into the unconscious mind of the performer and following non-linear threads through an enchanted, freaky colorful diy world of archetypes and inner characters. Huilo tells tales A multi media playground where Huilo reads from his book, and manifests the story of Lola boy finding his true self through a multitude of colorful props, sculpture, and paintings, come alive. The accompanying video projection allows time for costume changes as the sculpted persona/puppets guide one through these dense stories, down the rabbit hole if you will. What a bizarre treat of homemade props and lucid thoughts.   When I first saw this show I didn't know what to think.  But now, a few days later, I am able to better appreciate what was going on. None of it really made sense to me, but when a show is this off the wall and psychedelic does that really matter?... full review
