A smart, funny, and always fearless look at the life of a young black girl determined to create her own identity. Very well written and presented. Only thing I'd suggest would be for the performer to truly connect with her audience by giving some eye contact or at least the appearance of eye contact. Her focus seemed to be above the audience. Bring them in with your eyes and smile and this fabulous piece will transcend.... full review

Jacquetta tells a marvelous story of a young girl dreaming of big cities and boarding schools. She is laugh-out-loud funny and instantly engaging. You feel like you're right there with her every step of the way because her story is so relatable. And you are rooting for her! Go and laugh and admire her tenacity! ... full review

I loved it! Such an amazing show! Knowing her personal story, but at the same time I saw a social issue in the United States as a African American. During the show, I traveled with her to the places she was been. Entire time I was so engaged her story, and wanted to know more! I believe this show will inspire many people in the world! This one woman show turned out to be a very personal one for me. I might as well have been raised on the tenets of "The Preppy Handbook." While Jaquetta struggled to embrace these ridiculous rules, I initially clung to them as a life style, and then pushed away from them as hard as I could. This amazing journey is wonderfully funny, brilliant, and heartbreaking by turns. The writing is only topped by the incredible performance itself. I'm looking forward to Part Two, in which we hear more about the Hungarian plumber she married TWICE! Do NOT miss this show! being a half white/black person who has more than considered "giving up on black people"... i loved the show! what a talented writer, actress and human being! funny, cutting - but not offensive, and clear, i heard myself saying "yeah, girl"... a lot. my husband didn't even mind giving up what could have been the last game of the NBA season. can't wait to hear the twice married and divorced story! Jacquetta is a very funny storyteller and her story is fascinating. her show also spoke to me on a personal level about feeling disenfranchised from a social group, but despite the seriousness of the subject matter, not once did i feel like she was self-pitying. instead it was an empowering piece that was fun to watch and really got me thinking. i definitely recommend this show to anybody and everybody. fun, easy, interesting and thoughtful (notice i didn't use the Oxford comma - never do <- little program joke there).... full review
