needtheater Presents
“The Event”
By John Clancy
Directed by Ian Forester
Starring Paul Dillon

Don’t miss this international fringe hit!

Winner- Fringe First Award, 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival

“It deliberately and cruelly destroys illusion…and challenges us to rise from our safe seats in the comforting dark and protest.” -The Guardian

“The Event” is a one-man tour-de-force in which a single actor narrates his and the audience’s experience of what is happening during the performance, asking “What is illusion? What is real?” Forester once again brings John Clancy’s unique theatrical voice to Los Angeles. Their last collaboration, needtheater’s 2008 production of “Fatboy,” won three LA Weekly Theatre Awards.

Critics rave about this production!

“Ian Forester directs Dillon in a pitch-perfect interpretation…

Dillon imbues his brittle and wryly funny interpretation with deeply felt understanding…

Playwright Clancy simply uses every conceivable aspect of the theater as an allegory for all the world being a stage. That he does it so simply turns his one-act into something like one of those luminous shafts of light that shoot up into the night from a truck outside some celebrity event or advertising event."

Paul Dillon is the man. That's it. You won't find a more brilliant actor anywhere in this town. He can take a piece like this, which in the hands of someone lesser abilities could be a tedious evening and turns it into a celebration of what it is we do as actors. His timing and delivery leave yo...read more

as much as i respect winning an edinburgh "fringe first" award, i just hate solo shows that are about NOTHING (have neither a compelling story nor an interesting perspective on life), offer the audience NOTHING (only an arid technical conceit on performance), and over and over again, invite the audi...read more
