RICHARD ADAMS, The World Socialist Website (to be posted soon)
This world premiere written and directed by Paul Hoan Zeidler features Charles Pacello (Maple) and Etienne Eckert (Glennie). Glennie and Maple’s story is told in a series of five “morning afters” that track their on-again, off-again relationship. Glennie, damaged by an abusive relationship with a former lover, struggles with depression and battered self-esteem; Maple revels in his role as her self-appointed savior. She resents his ...

RICHARD ADAMS, The World Socialist Website (posted soon)
Written by company member Paul Elliott and his husband Ed Boswick, Gentle Passage is an hour-long two-hander featuring Gary Rubenstein and Rachel Boller. Structured as a series of blackout scenes, Gentle Passage tells the story of Joe, an aging gay man who has enrolled in an Alzheimer’s study conducted by Anna, a callously abrasive UCLA research fellow. Anna’s just been dumped from a deep-pocket ADHD study and forced to take on what is c...

I have very mixed feelings on this production. There are some fascinating ideas at work here and I find myself still thinking about the production days later, which is a feat in and of itself. I wanted more from this production, but I think there are some good elements here and I hope that some of the technical glitches that others have mentioned can get cleaned up before the rest of their shows begin.
Richard Parker resulted in a long discussion with my partner-in-crime and this show just mi...

I've had the pleasure of seeing Jon perform at the Magic Castle and it was so nice to see him at the Fringe Festival this year. His magical skills are unparalleled and I was blown away by his tricks. He is also extremely funny and you'll be entertained every moment of the show. Just wait for his amazing Tiny Plunger routine, we're thinking of having t-shirts made. ;-)...

Ratner's "Voices in My Head" is more than your average memory play. In less than an hour, he expertly guides us on a journey through not just his own life, but the kind of life that many in the creative and entertainment fields will recognize: early infatuation with all manner of media, the need for attention, the yearning to find one's own voice and share it with the world, reckoning with love and loss and transmuting it into artistic expression, and finally, pondering the sublime mysteries of l...

When I first heard about this show, I expected it to be a fluffy instructive time about the woes of Africans and AIDS from an over-privileged white girl.
What I found was quite the contrary: a truthful retelling of a girl's heartbreaking journey with a huge side of snark--just how I like it.
At first, Ms. Alfinito is a little bit rough and gruff around the edges, but in the end it's all part of her charm. I think she could win over the most platonic audience member with her wonderful vulner...

If you want to see range in an actor, watch Zuri Alexander transform from an innocent 10-month old Gayby into a siren of sex and psychological domination. James Babbin (the man she dominates), Mandy Dunlap (the other baby in the playpen) and Wiliam Jones (the guard who watches over then all) are also excellent....

Jan O'Conner's "Pool of Gold" resonates with ideas and passion and the performance of Crystal Flores is something to remember. And Jan's underemployed and bitter Tinerkbell (played by Corey Clifford) is a great piece of fariy-tale retelling. "Fierce: L.A. Streets" would be perfect but for Amy Tofte's somewhat pointless dance/ensemble/thing that concludes the show....
