Giraffenstein

Just when you think the team at Color and Light Ensemble can't get any better, they do. A unique take on a classic tale, adapted by the creator of last year's smash hit "The Pokemusical," "Giraffenstein" is an OUTSTANDING production and an absolute must-see at this year's Hollywood Fringe Festival. Do not miss this show. You will thank me later. ... full review

Engaging, heart-wrenching and, at some points, terrifying. Well-executed with high production value. Worth seeing. ... full review

Better Than Shakespeare presents: Much Ado About Something

gregory crafts · June 09, 2014 certified reviewer
If you enjoy mash-ups like 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' or vintage sci-fi b-movies, then this is the show for you. With nods to the rest of Shakespeare's folio (including an alien leader aping Richard III), this 'Much Ado' is cleverly done and very entertaining. ... full review

Riot Grrrl Saves the World

A timely story show featuring a very talented cast. Saturday's preview featured an unscripted moment that only the magic of live theatre could provide. At one point, the band performs an original song live on stage. The speakers failed (as tech is wont to do at Fringe). Instead of letting it throw them, the girls said, "fuck it, we're going acoustic" and rocked the song anyway. Not only was it one of the most Fringe moments I'd ever seen, but one of the most pure punk rock. Bravo.... full review

THE FANTASTICKS - the original fringe musical (1959)

gregory crafts · June 06, 2014 uncertified reviewer
The Good People at Good People Theatre Company have set the bar for musicals at the Fringe this year. This well-produced, well-executed show was a great way to kick off my 2014 Fringe Experience. I have seen "The Fantasticks" before, off-Broadway, and Janet Miller's team bring a production that easily rivals New York in quality. One could say that this show was so good, it made me wonder what it's doing at the Fringe. I mean that in the best way possible, of course. Joey D'Auria and Corky Lo... full review

Fringe Awards Ceremony 2013

I had a blast at this party. As someone that's been here since year one, I can't even begin to describe how thrilling it was to see wall-to-wall-to-wall Fringers. To say that we've grown as a community would be a gross understatement. I don't think anyone expected the turnout we got, and I think those of you complaining about the heat don't realize the significance of that turnout, or why that's cause to celebrate by itself. We are LEGION. Thank you to the companies that sponsored awards. Y... full review

Double Bind

Wow. Just... wow. This jaw-dropping three-hander about a man caught between the life he's built for himself and the life he's always wanted will leave you breathless. When the two worlds he's tried to walk between violently collide (the collision coming in the form of a confrontation between the love of his life and the best friend from his younger, wilder days who, like Peter Pan, will never grow up) he's forced to choose - the life of dead-eyed convenience and security or the life of wild-eyed ... full review

Fancy! A Southern Gothic Camp Parable

gregory crafts · July 01, 2013 uncertified reviewer
I genuinely found Chris Farah's character, Fancy, to be simultaneously endearing and sexy. Although the script could use a touch more polish and clarity in a few places, the story itself is a fun parable for adults about acceptance and the consequences of forcing one's beliefs onto another that we can all learn something from. Put it on your "to see" list. ... full review

30 Minute Musicals: Independence Day

gregory crafts · July 01, 2013 uncertified reviewer
The team at 30MM has done it again! This clever send-up of the popular disaster movie is chock-full of genuine triple-threat talent. Now, you do need to be familiar with the source material to follow the plot as a lot of the details fly by so fast they're easy to miss, but this show is meant to be in-your-face fun delivered at a breakneck pace. Don't miss it. ... full review

Frank and Ava

gregory crafts · July 01, 2013 uncertified reviewer
A compelling story that crackles with lust and passion, Will Manus' "Frank and Ava" chronicles the explosive relationship of two of the brightest stars of Hollywood's Golden Age. Most of the crowd in attendance when I saw the show was significantly older than I am, but it's a credit to the writing that I was able to understand, relate to and appreciate this true Hollywood story, even though I'm not as familiar with the details of Frank and Ava's life as others may be. The only drawback to the... full review
