Marathon Redux

What a fun time! I had been hoping to see another play, but didn't make the comp list, so I headed over to the Note to see what was happening. What a pleasant surprise. Jennifer Flack was great as the host, and all four performers were incredible. I especially enjoyed Melanie Gardner's ASL interpretation of Linkin Park's "Waiting for the End to Come," as well as the crazy hijinks of improvisational duo Green Boozer Elizir. A worthwhile effort and one I would gladly see again.... full review

Full Frontal Music

Going into the show, I had high hopes. As a music lover, any performance centered around music had to be great - right? Unfortunately, in this case, not completely. The premise of the play - middle-aged father coming to grips with his marriage and his kids and trying to regain his "guyness" sounded great. Unfortunately Schneider didn't quite pull it off. The songs themselves were enjoyable, but the second half of the show was not as strong as the first half, and left me feeling "unfulfilled.... full review

A perfect performance for history lovers and families, Steal Away tells the compelling story of Harriet Tubman. Through the use of live actors and puppets, it draws the audience in as the life story unfolds. A great way to spend some quality time with your family - great for small kids.... full review

Booze, Boys & Brownies; A Musical Journey

Veronica Mannion is a drop dead gorgeous, fiery redhead with a killer voice. Her play uses a combination of monologues, songs and videos to tell the story of a young actress, who has just moved to Los Angeles in search of an acting career. While Mannion's acting is above board, it is her singing that really puts her over the top. I highly recommend this show for a great time.... full review

DOG YEARS (aka Fear Factor: Canine Edition)

Masterful performance - incredible story of the relationship between a man and his dog. It was easy to understand the depth of John's love for Abbie, and the emotional journey he made as the time came to put her down. I left a changed man! Thanks for a job very well done!... full review

The Next Best Thing

WOW - simply amazing! Antonio uses every bit of his Irish-American and Cuban ancestry to take us on a journey into the very essence of love. I left with many questions and insights into the price of love and its intrinsic value - a definite MUST SEE! This show deserves to be crowd "TOP OF THE FRINGE!"... full review

Ineffable

Moving, funny, poignant and thoroughly entertaining. Made me think alot about the way society views death, and how we all choose to deal with it. No review can adequately express the sheer magnificence of this production. This is definitely a show that must be experienced personally in order to fully grasp the impact it leaves on the audience. Two thumbs and 8 fingers up - way up!... full review

The Poxy Boggards

The self-proclaimed drinking group with a singing problem brought their Renaissance show to the people of Hollywood - and it was a perfect fit. Packing out the Green Room on the Boulevard, the Boggards sang their collective hearts out, including their now infamous song used in the Dockers Super Bowl commercial - I Wear no Pants. I admit it was different hearing the sounds of the Boggards on the streets of Hollywood, but the rowdy crowd as well as the passers-by seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sh... full review

The Packer

A very rough piece that left me with more questions at the end than I had at the beginning. Unlike other stories involving a solo actor playing many different characters (such as Back to Babylon, T-O-T-A-L-L-Y, Brownsville Bred), there did not seem to be the type of story line to draw the characters together and it was hard to keep up with them. Unfortunately, I was bored halfway through the piece and did not find any relief in the outcome. This was my least favorite performance (similar to my... full review

T-O-T-A-L-L-Y!

I had to go back and see it again, so impressed was I the first time. And Kimleigh did not disappoint - a remarkable woman and a remarkable story. As is the case with live theater, there were small differences between Monday's performance and today, but they just made me love this woman and her performance even more. Thank God for Kimleigh!... full review
