Meet Me In Mizzery

OMG, this woman is so talented I can hardly stand it. I laughed so much during her show I had tears in my eyes. She is a master at making her characters both pedestrian and yet authentically relatable all at the same time. You don't have to be from Missouri to see the poignancy in her humor. She finds that gooey nougat center of comedy that is the foundation for life and rolls it up into one yummy treat for the audience. ... full review

Acid Wash Love

The writing and performances in this show are outstanding. One of the best plays I've seen at the HFF in a long time. I was engaged in the story the whole time and the acting from all three performers was top notch. This was a last-minute decision to attend, as we had some time to kill between shows. So we walked up and bought tickets. What a delightful surprise. Go see it. You won't be disappointed. ... full review

LAST CHRISTMAS

I loved this play. It's a peek into the running dialogue that we all have swirling around in our heads, but never actually say. Except here, Tom says all those things out loud which makes him very easy to relate to. It's a visual essay that expresses how coping with emotional pain is universal, and that processing that pain is the only way out. Well done to all involved in this production.... full review

UnReel

A surreal look into the wandering mind of a teenage boy the night before he has to take the dreaded college SAT. Very deep and dense, do not see this show when you're tired, as you need to pay attention every step of the way (not that you shouldn't do that anyway). It's a take-off on Samuel Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape, so if you know Beckett's solo play it helps you understand some of the choices young Denzil makes in UNREEL. Tip: See it with your own crowd. This show sparks good discussion with ... full review

The Day I Became Black

There is nothing better than an authentically funny story rooted in pain. Bill Posley's "The Day I Became Black" is just that. Kudos to Bill for sharing his deeply personal story that both entertains and informs. That's the best kind of storytelling there is. Go see this show. You won't be disappointed. ... full review
