The Art of Falling Down

What can you say about a show that has you crying in the first five minutes. The amazing truth in this production is so relevant that it was all i could do to not wanna hug these two actresses and tell them i believe in them. Why do we come to Fringe each year? Why do we write? Perform? Sing? For those of us that are artist, these questions plague us daily. And at times to the point we become so frustrated and want to give it up. This show reminds us of why we fail, why we continue, and why it ... full review

THUG TUNNEL

Robot Teammate is back again this year with another rock musical to blow you away. If one would categorize last year's "Timeheart" as a 70's throw-back, then "Thug Tunnel" takes us to the 80's, complete with cheezy dance moves, attitudes, and overall rock feel that we got from groups like Survivor and Journey. From the moment the show starts and you are taken to the dark tunnels under a scorched earth, it is non-stop as this troupe takes us so far outside the box. With hilarious songs and danc... full review

My Big Fat Blonde Musical

What a joy it was to see this show. With so many solo-shows and musicals at Fringe, I am always excited to see a show that is both. What blew me away, however, was that this was better than any of both categories I had seen in a very long time. Theresa and Bobby have put together a show that incorporates all the elements of a great musical, the hilarity of a one-woman comedy, and the drama of a heartfelt story. You find yourself singing along as you would any great Webber or Sondheim musical ... full review

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)

I have seen variations of this show before and so I was very excited to see what they would bring to this performance. And I was not disappointed at all! These girls lit up the stage from "lights up" and did not let go until curtain. All three ladies were on point with their timing, their characters and their understanding of the language. The various places that they made their production their own, and relevant for today, were some of the high points. And let's not forget to mention how wel... full review

Voices

Carla Delaney brings something a little unique to solo-shows this year. And that is, her ability to really inhabit not only her characters, but the amazing voices she gives them. When watching this show, I was immediately taken into her story, witnessing her journey as she finds her true voice. The writing was on point and her performance from start to finish was amazing. She delivers one of the most relevant stories of Fringe this year, in that she struggles to find her true voice among the ... full review

Mount Vernon

For a show that starts off like Edward Albee's "Zoo Story," this play takes you to a whole other level of emotion connection and pain. The depth at which the characters are written is incredible and both actors rise to challenge of taking them on this journey. Not only was I enthralled by the story, but also by the grace at which the director led us toward the painful, yet heartwarming ending. Going in with very little expectations, I was blown away by just how much ground they were able to co... full review

When writing a review for one of your top 3 shows, it's not easy to choose the right words. But I'll do my best. When I sat down to see this show, I only had an idea of what to expect. However, from the first moment of the show, I knew my idea was not even in the same ballpark as what they were about to give us. From the opening number to some of the most emotional songs I've heard, Johnides and Gonzalez weave a heartfelt story that will have you crying multiple times. The voices on that sta... full review

R&J, a gender-reversed Romeo and Juliet

I will admit that going into see this show, I was only slightly interested. I say that, because I have seen and read this show so many times, that I felt they couldn't really surprise me. Boy, was I completely wrong! From the moment to two leads lock eyes, you are entranced! It is often said that the success of "Romeo & Juliet" hinges on the connection between the two leads and believing they are head over heels in love. This show did not disappoint! Through the amazing direction by Abby Cra... full review

OUT MY WINDOW

How to put into words the emotions one gets watching this show. To think how a series of photographs could tell such a compelling story. What a beautiful journey Kearney takes us on as he lets us in on some of the most wonderful characters and events that took place along Hollywood Blvd. By the end of the show, you find that you have laughed quite a bit, cried probably a little, and taken with you some moments that will have you thinking well after you've left the theater. I was very much mov... full review

Fish Out Of Whiskey:A Lawyer Who Just Wants You Off His Case

matthew martin · June 28, 2015 uncertified reviewer
When you open the program of this show, your are immediately told that Wade is not an actor. He is a lawyer. That being said, you would never know it. With some great direction and coaching, and some fairly fine-tuned writing, Skalsky has crafted an amusing story that will keep you smiling from the moment he saunters on stage with a bottle in one hand and a glass in the other. With some really nice comedic timing, Wade shares with us some intimate moments that shaped his journey and life that ... full review
