Don't Talk About It, SPIT About It

This is my absolute favorite dramatic ensemble piece at Fringe this year. Phenomenal writing by Alex Alpharaoh, superb direction by Elisa Noemi, and a truly STELLAR ensemble cast. The show mixes spoken word, compelling scenes, and extraordinary movement pieces choreographed by Alana Duvernay. The cast played to an entirely sold out house and the energy both onstage and in the seats was electric. The show is interactive and the audience is encouraged to respond vocally to the work. The cast p... full review

The Devil You Say

This show was beautifully done. Excellent writing, lovely performances by the voice of the Devil as well as both of the puppeteers and the violinist. (The music was so seamlessly played that I thought it was a track! I was so delighted when I realized it was live). I loved the staging of this piece and was mesmerized by the puppetry. The devil puppet was so incredibly-made and handled masterfully by Robyn Walsh. Although the dark nature of the premise may seem scary, it's totally family-frie... full review

Buena Noche

Mimi is an incredible performer. I came across the description of her show on the fringe website and was so intrigued. A woman wakes up in the middle of the ocean and must find her way home? I'm in! But, not only did this synopsis intrigue me, Mimi's poetic writing, skillful dancing, hauntingly beautiful singing, and overall extraordinary performance truly delivered on the whimsical concept. I loved how she started in the land of sleep and American commercials. The dichotomy between the two ... full review

OUT MY WINDOW

The only thing more endearing than the stories behind the people in Ernest's photographs, is Ernest, himself. Every day people work at facilities on Hollywood Blvd. and never think twice about the lost souls who walk by. But, not Ernest. When he worked there in the 70s, his eyes were wide open and so was his heart. This man saw through these people straight to their greatest good. He befriended the people most turn away from because he has a way of looking at the world that welcomes and embr... full review

CAN'T TAKE MY (EYES) OFF OF YOU

Fiona Lakeland's writing is uniquely poignant and her performance as Holly is effortlessly natural. Whenever she is onstage, it just feels like she is so at ease and living in every moment. Her writing touches on truly relevant material in the land of modern relationships/friendships. I also loved how multi-faceted her female characters were. Melanie Alexander brings such truth and humor to the best friend in love with Stefan. These relationships make you question...are we ever really happy ... full review

Into The Fog

I stumbled upon this show due to the Fringe app and it was the happiest accident. I literally walked into another world. This cast is extraordinary. They epitomize the word ensemble. Every movement, every interaction, every look at the audience, every single moment is 110% lived in and authentically experienced. I connected so much with this piece. It left me feeling moved, inspired, melancholy and joyful all at once. It felt like a glimpse inside the human experience. This show was my ab... full review

Ma Voix: Song of My Youth

GO GO GO GO GO SEE THIS SHOW!! Rachel Kiser is a beam of light that shines a beautiful rainbow across the stage from start to finish. Her story is compelling and she takes you on a boldly honest journey of how she lost herself and sacrificed the very essence of who she was for what she thought was true love. Watching her story made me think of the Little Mermaid (the original story by Hans Christian Andersen). Rachel is very much like the little mermaid, a bright light of a beautiful soul who... full review

THE CONDUCT OF LIFE

The performances in this piece are the epitome of brave, vulnerable, and raw. The actors committed 110% to this dark, haunting journey. It touches on so many terrifying parts of human nature. Watching this play made me think of this quote: "He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it." Martin Luther King, Jr. So much wrong is happening all around and yet the cha... full review

Thumb Wars

This show TOTALLY captures the effect of technology on modern dating. Sean Boring's writing is hysterical. I think he should have his own sketch show or be a writer on SNL. I was laughing from start to finish. He hit the nail on the head with the difference between men and women texting language!! The cast completely captures the innocence of new love and of the cynicism that comes with failed love - two of the characters are jaded and two are still hopeful when it comes to finding true love.... full review

The REV at The Church of E.L.V.I.S.$.

I loved the REV! Markhum's character work is exceptional, funny, and thoroughly entertaining. I loved how committed he was and how it truly felt like we were in a church, from the singing to the offering, to the prayers. And it brought up questions for me as to what are the things we are truly idolizing and praising? Although it was entirely a comedy, I felt those deeper questions coming up naturally. I found the Rev's sermon to be very accurate in its reflection of modern day celebrity cult... full review
