Lamprey: Weekend of Vengeance

First off, I love and am insanely jealous of Peter Fluet's writing. This show (a former Serial Killer) is just rapid-fire amazing dialogue and characters that hangs on and doesn't let go (like an eel with teeth..... also known as a Lam--) Praise also goes to the fluid comic choreographed directing by Victor Isaac and the hysterical performances by the ENTIRE cast, but particularly Peter Fluet himself and genius performance of Carrie Keranen (in the title role as the eponymous Lamp--) Raise a toas... full review

Here There Be Dragons

A fantastic meditation on what it means to deny being yourself and how to find the way back to what you truly are. Drew Vandiver is not only an amazing writer and performer, but has had some incredible experiences, and I relate to so much of what he's done and been through that I was personally very affected - I feel we all will be: this isn't a story of someone finding themselves as an artist, it's the story of us finding and not being afraid of our selves. ... full review

ONE STEP OVER

This is Theatre. I was absolutely in awe of the writing - the characters, the use of language - it was Mamet, only smoother and with more respect for actors. The direction was fantastic - with three chairs and two tables, I was transported INTO New York apartments, boardrooms, restaurants. The acting (and this is connected to the direction) was truthful, impacting, and raw - across the board, though David Lee Garver and Ralph Guzzo's work truly stands out. This deserves an extension, a stay in Ne... full review

Titus Andronicus Jr.

OH. MY. GOD. This is GENIUS! I was literally screaming with laughter - TEARS rolling down my face! A super-smart premise, FANTASTIC acting by EVERY member of the cast (Huge kudos to the junior cast who NAILED it!) it just enough ACTUAL Shakespeare red to even be worth seeing without the... um... revisions. Topical, well-staged, and PAINFULLY funny!! I came home and texted the words "SEE TITUS ANDRONICUS JR IMMEDIATELY!!!" to a ton of friends. You should be one of them. Sell this out!!! GO!!!... full review

50 SHADES OF SHAKESPEARE

First and foremost, the actors in this show are brilliant. The performances - across the board - are amazing, they really know their stuff, and to have that many roles prepped at a second's notice and pull it off is beyond impressive. The idea of the "grab bag" show was fun and added some extra drama. The addition of the fetish dom/sub theme fell a bit flat for me, as I was already more involved in the immediacy of the action and it seemed one step extra that didn't need to be taken, but that's a... full review

MacDeth!

Once again, Ryan JW Smith makes me jealous of his writing talent, his performance talent, and his casting talent. Taking a riff on the Scottish king this round with a few minor (major... they're major) twists, Smith and his cast spit the witty dialogue so smoothly one assumes they've been rehearsing for months. The cauldron shots are a nice touch (in every possible way). Go - especially if you've never seen a Ryan JW Smith show before - looking for ward to SWEET LOVE ADIEU!... full review

The Creeps

Fantastic character work, an unsettling connection with the audience, and I fell in love with Catherine in the first three minutes. A HUGE talent, an aptly-named show, and I really want to see more! Do sequels happen at Fringe? GO!... full review

NILBOG: the unauthorized musical parody of Troll 2

matt ritchey · June 05, 2016 uncertified reviewer
SO MUCH FUN! I happen to know the horror/genius that is TROLL 2 and you'd definitely benefit from knowing it, but it's by no means a requirement! A great (huge!) cast with fun numbers doing a bang-up job with source material! All the usual 2-Cent suspects are unsurprisingly wonderful, with a temporary addition of Sarah Wolter who was a stand-out! Don't piss on their hospitality!... full review

A Whole NEWD World-Cherry Tales at The Knock Shop

The Cherry Poppins open the Knock Shop in the Woods to welcome a reluctant Little Rojo. Shenanigans ensue in the best possible ways. CPC always put on good shows, but this tops everything that's come before - witches, genies, princesses, princes, lesbians, and other fictional characters abound! Seriously. See this ASAP. It got a standing ovation halfway through the show. Go now.... full review

Mark Twain Answers All Your Questions!

matt ritchey · June 03, 2016 uncertified reviewer
All my questions WERE answered! A hilarious, informative (sometimes misinformative) hour cleft in Twain by audience participation and TRUTH! The often combustible author will have you screaming with laughter and leaving the theatre knowing just a bit more than you ever really wanted to know. If you saw POE SHOW from the last Fringe, you get where this is headed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!... full review
